Born in 1991 in Odesa, Ukraine, Kyrylo Korsunenko began his musical education at the Stolyarsky School and continued at the Odesa Nezhdanova Music Academy. For his exceptional artistic achievements, he received both the Mayor of Odesa’s Scholarship for Young Artists and the Presidential Scholarship for outstanding students.
Since 2012 he has lived and studied in Germany, completing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (Aachen Department) in the class of Prof. Andreas Frölich. Since 2020 he has been furthering his artistic development under Prof. Eliso Virsaladze at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole in Florence, Italy.
He has received artistic inspiration in masterclasses with distinguished pianists such as Dmitri Bashkirov, Vadim Rudenko, Bernd Goetzke, Pawel Gililov, Jerome Rose, Jacques Rouvier, and Norma Fisher, among others.
Korsunenko made his debut as solist with orchestra at the age of 13 in Kyiv with Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor, followed by performances with the Ukrainian National Orchestra, the Sinfónica de Galicia, the Odesa Philharmonic, and the AOV Munich, performing piano concertos by Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov.
He is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, including 1st Prize and the Special Prize for Spanish Music at the “Compositores de España” Competition in Madrid, the Steinway Förderpreis Düsseldorf, and prizes at competitions in Livorno, Granada, Ferrol, Cologne, Odesa, Vorzel and Aachen.
Since 1997 he has appeared in major venues across Ukraine and Europe, including the Odesa Philharmonic, Herkulessaal Munich, Beethovenfest Bonn, Klavierfestival Ruhr, Mozarteum Salzburg, Euriade Festival, and the “C. Bechstein Young Professionals” series. His 2018 recital at the “aix-piano” series in Aachen was broadcast on WDR3.
Together with Ukrainian colleagues, he has organized several benefit concerts in support of humanitarian causes, including performances in Paris, Brussels, and Munich. In 2016 he appeared in a European tour with concerts at Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Odeon Zwolle, and Spanish venues such as the Auditorio de Zaragoza and Real Maestranza de Sevilla.
From 2018 to 2022 he focused intensively on the music of J. S. Bach, performing the Goldberg Variations and other Bach's works in Odesa, Aachen, Munich, and Frankfurt. Recordings of these performances are available on YouTube and Spotify.
His artistic projects extend beyond classical music. With the ensemble “B-Sight,” he presented numerous premieres of contemporary works, and his first album “Out of Room” (2019), a collaboration with trumpeter Daniel Gronsfeld, features jazz improvisations. During the pandemic he launched streaming concerts with Italian pianist Carolina Danise and tabla player Arup Sen Gupta as part of the duo “Deliniris.”
Since 2022 he has initiated a series of charity concerts for Ukraine, performing at events such as ArtMUC Munich, Brussels City Hall (“Europa Nostra”), and the Büchelmuseum Rote Burg in Aachen together with jazz singer Tamara Lukasheva. In 2024 he collaborates with dancer Katerina Giannakopoulou in the multidisciplinary flamenco project “Los Amores del Brujo,” reflecting on the themes of war and peace through art.
Today, Kyrylo Korsunenko lives in Switzerland on Lake Constance and teaches piano in Appenzell.
